Spring Cleaning!

NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANUP DAYS ARE HERE!

The City of Decatur Public Works department is gearing up for the 2018 Neighborhood Cleanup days.

The City offer these days once a year to help residents dispose of bulky items that don’t easily fit into Pay-As-You-Throw bags. Each street in the city is assigned to a Saturday between March and June. Dates for the 2018 event are now available:

http://www.decaturga.com/home/showdocument?id=11176

All items to be collected should be placed at the curb by 7:30 a.m. This ensures that we do not have to rerun routes for late set-outs. Collections run until 3:30 p.m., or until finished, whichever is sooner.

Acceptable Items
• Yard trimmings

• Building materials (not from the work of private contractors)
• Tires
• Furniture
• Appliances (not containing Freon)
• Trash that won’t fit into pay-as-you-throw (PAYT) bags

Materials we will not collect
• Liquids

• Dirt
• Bricks
• Blocks
• Stone, rocks, or concrete
• Motor vehicle batteries or parts
• Trees (removed by contractor)

Speaking of spring cleaning, the City street sweeping schedule can be found here:

Find your street and tell your neighbors so street parking will be minimal on those days.

New in Decatur: Decatur Buskers Program

Bring music, magic, dancing, and fun to the streets of Decatur! Decatur’s busking program encourages street performers and emerging artists to showcase their talents and contribute to a lively street culture in our community.

Just a few requirements…

  • A permit is required to participate. Good news: it’s free! Fill out an application and deliver it in person to Decatur Arts Alliance headquarters at 113 Clairemont Ave. (The Arts Alliance shares space with the Decatur Visitors Center, and is closed on Sundays and Mondays.) We will take your photo, so look sharp (unless that’s not your thing). We’ll take a new photo every year.
    – Permits are valid for one month, renewable on the first of each month
    – Permits issued after the first are valid for the remainder of that month
    – Permits are not transferable
  • Performers can collect tips, but cannot directly solicit for tips. Put out a jar or open your case and add a small sign if you like, but don’t ask people for payment.
  • If there’s another performer nearby, make your separation at least 20 feet.
  • And be a good neighbor! Please don’t stand too close to building entrances or crosswalks, avoid using amplifiers, and follow the city’s safety guidelines.

Download and print your free application: http://decaturartsalliance.org/decatur-buskers-program/ See you on the sidewalks!
