Decatur United Launched for Small Business Recovery

The City of Decatur, the Decatur Development Authorities (DDA), and Legacy Decatur have announced the creation of a small business loan program in response to the financial challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of $500,000 is being made available as part of this initiative, with $400,000 coming from the City of Decatur and $100,000 pledged by the DDA. Many people have asked how to help our small businesses – here is your chance:  the public can contribute to the program by making a tax-deductible donation through Legacydecatur.com. For $100 donation or more, you can proudly display this sign in your yard. Join me in supporting this effort! #DecaturUnited

The city has also compiled an interactive map to find restaurants, markets, retailers and services ready to serve you. Think local, buy local, whenever you can.

City of Decatur Summer Camps are cancelled

From Decatur Active Living and Decatur Children and Youth Services:

To the Decatur Community:

It is with a heavy heart that we share that the City of Decatur has decided to cancel all planned summer camps for this summer.  This includes Legacy Park Day Camp, all E Camps, sports camps, tennis, and swim camps offered by the City of Decatur’s Children and Youth Services and Active Living divisions.

We will be processing refunds for all enrolled campers in the coming weeks (this is a laborious process so please be patient with us as we work through all our camp registrations).

May is Bike Month!

Join us in celebrating National Bike Month. We wish we could get together for some rides, or other activities. Since that is not possible this year, we are  inviting you to participate in Virtual Bike Month. (decaturga.com/activeliving/page/biking-decatur)

We have routes, fun activities, safety information, and more. There is also a Bike Month checklist that you complete, then send in for a prize.

We love seeing so many Decaturites on their bikes during this time. Please remember to follow the rules of the road, ride safely, and share the paths with walkers.

The League of American Bicyclists has postponed Bike to Work Week until September, so we hope to plan something fun at that time.

Keep on cycling and take some photos of yourself; post with #ibikedecatur.
