Temporary Open Container Ordinance

The Decatur City Commission passed a temporary Weekend Open Container Ordinance that allows restaurants to sell alcoholic beverages in open containers within the boundaries of the five business districts including Decatur Downtown Business District, Old Depot District, West Ponce Business District, East College Business District and Oakhurst Business District. The temporary Ordinance goes into effect on Friday, October 30 at 4 p.m. and expires Sunday, January 3 at 1 a.m. The Ordinance allows the sales on Fridays from 4 p.m. – 1 a.m. and Saturdays from 3 p.m. – 1 a.m. every week.

CARES ACT Funding

The City of Decatur received $2.9M in CARES Act funding through an agreement with DeKalb County which, based on population, was eligible for direct federal CARES Act funds. Distribution of these Coronavirus Relief funds have included: expanding the small business assistance program to $900,000 (in addition to community funds of $68,000 raised by DecaturUnited); Pandemic Pay for city employees; expanding assistance program to include a grant program for local non-profits ($300,000); Pandemic expenses (PPE equipment; cleaning supplies; technology needs, etc.). Please visit the Secretary of State’s website for information regarding your precinct and District. Voting maps are also available on the city’s website. 

In addition to municipal elections, a DeKalb County-wide Education-SPLOST (Special Local Option Sales Tax) and the referendum for a senior homestead exemption in Decatur will be on the ballot. See details about the proposed homestead exemption. 
Registration for voting in the November 2, 2021 election will end on Monday, October 4, 2021. For the November 2, 2021 General Municipal Election, the Absentee Poll will open 22 days prior to the Election (October 12, 2021). All Advance Voting (Absentee in person) will be held October 12, 2021 through October 29, 2021.

Neighborhood Clean Up Days Continue!

The City of Decatur is hosting Neighborhood Cleanup Days on Saturdays starting in March through June, to allow residents to dispose of bulky materials that would not normally be placed in Pay-As-You-Throw bags. Every street in the City has been assigned to one Saturday.  Please see the instructions below, along with the date specified for each street.  There has been a change from the previous year’s schedule.
